Winter Olypics

Winter Olympics

Beep, Beep! When Soohorang’s alarm went off he quickly jumped up.  Today was the day that he would compete in the bobsledding event at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Grabbing all his gear and his keys, he dashed into his car and drove all the way to the arena where he would compete.  He was so excited that he couldn’t sit still, his knees were jumping up and down like Mexican jumping beans.

When Soohorang arrived at the arena the noise was deafening.  He could hear people chanting and cheering for their favourite athletes.  The air in the waiting area was chilly. Luckily his white, creamy fur kept him warm.  After 10 minutes of waiting, Soohorang heard an announcement “All contestants for bobsledding come to the startline.”

Taking a deep breath he said “it's time.” Soohorang slowly walked to the bobsled and his adrenaline started pumping in his veins.  When it was time he started running while pushing the bobsled in front of him. Soohorang got ready to leap but when he tried jumping in he suddenly slipped and fell.  He didn't make it in. Soohorang started sliding down the bobsled track and realized he was facing a conundrum he was sliding at a whopping 20 MHP.
All of a sudden, ice skates landed next to him. He put them on and tried standing up.  It took a lot of effort but he managed to do it, but then he heard cracking he looked behind him and the track was breaking.  One of his skates were stuck in the crack he tried pulling it out but it was no use. He took of the skate and started skating on one leg he could see his bobsled in the far distance he started moving really fast and was now pushing the bobsled he then jumped in.  This time Soohorang made it in he could see the finish line but the track was breaking even faster and faster until” Soohorangs bobsled past the finish line “WE WON. WE ACTUALLY WON” Soohorang walked up to the 1st place podium. Where he was presented a golden medal Soohorang was bowing and tearing up because he had so much pride building up.
“Thank you thank you” Soohorang repeatedly said. After that Soohorang went home with his gold medal “ I’m so proud of myself” he whispered.”

Dear Greenpeace,

I love snapping turtles very much and I think I saw one in my backyard when I was playing sport yesterday.

Please send me some information on snapping turtles as I think he might be lost.

Love
Tareeq

Dear Tareeq,

Here are some details about snapping turtles . Unfortunately I don’t think you’ll find it was a snapping turtle you saw because they usually live in shallow freshwater. These turtles are only found in North America from Canada to North Mexico so it’s unlikely to find any in New Zealand.

Yours sincerely,
Greenpeace

Dear Greenpeace,
I have been wetting my lawn before school for a week with my dad’s garden hose. The lawn is starting to get wet and muddy. I hope he likes it this way.

I think he might be hungry so what should I feed him?

Love
Tareeq

Dear Tareeq,

Please dont wet the garden. I don't think you’re parents will enjoy the mud. Snapping turtles also eat plants, fish, insects and frogs.

Dear Greenpeace,

Today I have been pulling the weeds from my mums garden and feeding to the snapping turtle. He seemed really happy and lets me pat his head.

Love
Tareeq

Dear Tareeq,

Please Stop pulling the weeds from your mums garden I dont think your mum wouldn't be really happy with you. Please don't pat snapping turtles’ heads. They are very dangerous and can also bite through your bones.

Yours sincerely,
Greenpeace

Dear Greenpeace,

I read your letter to my snapping turtle this morning and he smiled. I secretly took some chocolates from the cupboard and left it on the grass and they were all gone. What should I call him? I think I shall call him Todd what do you think?

                      Love
Tareeq

Dear Tareeq,

I now have to point out forcefully that snapping turtles can’t live in your backyard because they travel far in order to find food and they also live in water.

           Yours sincerely,
Greenpeace

Dear Greenpeace,

Tonight I am really sad Todd has gone. I think you’re letter made sense to him and I think he has decided to go and live in the shallow fresh water in Canada.

                      Love
Tareeq

Dear Tareeq,

Please don't be too upset it really was impossible for a snapping turtle to live in your backyard. Perhaps when you’re older you can come and study snapping turtles with us.

             Yours sincerely,
            Greenpeace

Dear Greenpeace,

Today was the happiest ever! I saw Todd at the pond today at Mission Bay. I said goodbye and he let me stroke his head and I gave him a bit of my sandwich. I said I love him and I hope you don't mind but I said you love him to.

                         Love
                      Tareeq (and Todd)
